Manzanita |
| I made up my mind to try uploading at the Cafe just for the experience. I arrived in Manzanita at 11:30 am and
found the Cafe with a little help. It was a small trailer in a parking lot with two computers for rent for typing,
email, internet or whatever. I told the proprietor my situation and she suggested plugging her network into my
computer since it would be cheapest. I was not familair with uploading to AOL, so I chose the slightly more expensive
dial up connection to my laptop. Everything went pretty smooth. I made the usual mistakes of uploading to the wrong directory so it took twice as long and cost twice as much as it should have. The price was 50 cents per minute while the network connection would have been $6.50 per hour. Is this a possible business to get into. Will there be enough campers needing this service in the future to support a business on the coast. Why not contract with the state parks and Forest Service to have them supply a T1 line outside of each campground and provide computers for email and dial up or network connections? On the other hand why can't I just plug my laptop into a payphone and use a 1010 number to get 5 cents a minute? Maybe there are places you can do that and it just has not reached the Northern Oregon coast yet. I was in and out in a few minutes and headed back to Cape Lookout. I believe the above picture was taken from my car driving through Bay City. I don't have any more information than that. |
